Faces in the Crowd : George Singing

Acrylic on canvas, 40.5 x 30 cm, 2015.

A surprising number of people in the village are accomplished musicians. Of course people do not fall into simple, neat categories here and most people have several skills and several jobs. Our honey comes from a local beekeeper whose day job is metalwork (he made all the balcony railings on our house). One of my favourite bouzouki players is a master builder and so on. George (in the picture) is, I think, retired but plays and sings professionally. In this picture he was joined by a bouzouki player who is also an accountant. From a distance he has a face you would recognise, but go close and it is not a face but a series of striated lines. How do you de-focus a secondary subject? That is something I was exploring here.
