The ability to persuade depends on many things – the quality of your argument, your recognised knowledge of the subject at hand and so on. It also depends on the willingness of your audience to be persuaded. Some are amenable to the idea after a few drinks and some are pre-disposed to be cynical doubters. The man on the left is a good friend of mine and an eloquent and persuasive companion, but here he is not finding it all that easy.
